Foreword [Kenneth Kunen (1943–2020): In memoriam]

Abstract:

The purpose of this special issue is to celebrate the memory and mathematics of Kenneth Kunen (1943–2020). He is best known for his deep, often ground-breaking research in set theory and topology. Here, we will concentrate on giving tribute to his outstanding work in the latter subject. Much has been written about Ken and his remarkable results, so we simply refer the interested reader to the 2011 special issue of this journal, to the upcoming special issue of the Annals of Pure and Applied Logic, and to the upcoming article “In memory of Ken Kunen” (to appear in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society). We are grateful to the Editors-in-Chief for giving us the opportunity to edit this issue, to our many distinguished contributors for accepting our invitation to publish their research here, and to all the anonymous referees for their careful work.
