On the algebraic k-theory of mapping class groups and of the 5 string-braid groups of the sphere

Abstract:

We give a formula for the algebraic K-theory groups , the integral group ring of the mapping class group of an orientable surface of finite type. We apply the formula for the case of the 5-punctured sphere and the braid group on 5 strings on the sphere to find a formula for lower algebraic K-groups of the group rings of these groups.
